I’ve always enjoyed looking at and watching all sorts of media such as TV ads, billboards, posters, signs, brochures, pamphlets etc, but have only ever looked at them at face value, taken them for granted really – the colors, fonts, the message that they’re trying to convey to the public. But I never really gave any thought to the work involved and process that goes on behind the scenes to get that ad or billboard in front of the public.
Since starting work in an Advertising agency, it’s opened my eyes to the multitude of details that are required to produce these ads from start to finish. The amazing Creatives who come up with such brilliant ideas, brainstorming for taglines, catch-phrases, a unique approach, something that’s never before been used in advertising.
All the endless meetings, liaisons with clients, back and forth, changes, amendments, add this, drop that, could you do this differently, let me think about it and I’ll get back to you. Together with the Marketing team these advertisements then have to make their way to the TV, radio, shop fronts, trams, buses – you name it, if it’s an ad of any sort, it’s been through this process. And may I say, the enthusiasm and fervor with which each person involved applies themselves, is just remarkable. No job is too big, no task too tedious. They deliver with a proud, happy smile.
I definitely have a new appreciation for the outstanding work and effort that goes into the advertising medium. The next time you see a TV commercial, billboard, website, brochure or whatever, take a moment to acknowledge and consider the amount of work that went on behind the scenes once you’ve taken in all you see on the surface. After all, with advertising there is always more than meets the eye.
