So we’re about to enter what officially has become known as the silly season.
I have to concur with the naming of this time of the year, which officially kicks off on the 1st of December. With Christmas looming merely week’s away advertisers go into overdrive to attract Christmas shoppers to their stores.
I love that people are trying to something a little different this year. I may be alone in this, but I actually like the current Myer Christmas campaign out the moment, which is the ‘A little Help with Christmas’ where they’re trying to steer people into buying good gifts for people. I think the TVCs they’ve come up with are quite entertaining, and a nice change from the usual.
It’s an integrated campaign, where you can contact Myer on Facebook and Twitter and you can actually ask ‘an Angel’ what they think you should buy someone and they’ll give you some suggestions. Quite handy for the Kris Kringle present or the great auntie that you haven’t seen in a few years. It’s also supported by print, outdoor and television.
Let’s be honest, except for those few people who were born to be Christmas elves, most people find the idea of Christmas shopping daunting. With shopping centres, getting more chaotic every year (Chadstone, I’m looking at you here), and people having everything, I’m not surprised Myer has come up with this campaign. I think it’s a great idea and it will be interesting to see how the campaign progresses into December.
